Oleksandr Usyk was allowed to leave after being detained at Krakow airport, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported. He instructed the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs to investigate the situation. Zelensky noted that the Ukrainian citizen and champion was released thanks to the swift actions of Ukrainian diplomats and law enforcement officers.
Oleksandr Usyk's promoter, Oleksandr Krasiuk, confirmed that the situation was a misunderstanding and the boxer is now free. Usyk's team director, Serhiy Lapin, stated that the customs control service did not fulfill its duties.
