The Netherlands will change residency rules for refugees: will Ukrainians be able to stay.

Ukrainians residing in the Netherlands may receive eased conditions for long-term residency in the country. This was reported by De Telegraaf, citing the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Marjolein Faber.
Ukrainian refugees who actively integrate into Dutch society, work, and pay taxes may gain a more stable residency status in the Netherlands. A decision made by the European Union has also extended temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens until March 2026.
Due to uncertainty regarding the end of the war, the Dutch authorities are considering the possibility of creating a 'national alternative' that will ensure stability for Ukrainians who have already integrated into society.
Applicants residing in the Netherlands, who have jobs, pay taxes, and contribute to the development of the economy and society, have a chance to obtain a permit for long-term residency.
However, to avoid mistakes and delays, it is recommended to consult an experienced lawyer who can help assess chances and properly file an application.
EU countries such as Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Romania also have programs for the long-term stay of Ukrainians.
These countries are retaining skilled Ukrainian workers, as it is economically beneficial.
The Dutch government is also considering options to support the voluntary return of Ukrainian refugees to Ukraine after the security situation improves.
The Netherlands plans to create a flexible system that will assist Ukrainians in legally residing in the country without overloading the migration sector. Conditions and criteria for obtaining long-term residency permits are still being discussed.
It is worth noting that the number of attacks on refugee shelters has increased in Germany.
