War against dishonest reviews: Italy radically changes rules for tourists.

The law on reviews in cafes is changing in Italy. Now, they must be verified with an identification document, and the reviewer must prove that they visited the establishment. According to the proposal, tourism review websites must check whether the visitor actually wrote the review before publishing it. This is done to combat paid ratings.
Moreover, companies can now request the removal of negative reviews two years after publication, even if the issue has been resolved. This law becomes the first in Europe. The association representing the interests of small tourism companies stated that the law is not detailed enough. Another association warns that the law should extend to social networks, not just official review sites.
A similar law has also been introduced in the city of Florence, which is fighting against overtourism. The city authorities plan to take measures against apartment hosts who install key safes on the walls of houses.
