Need to urgently flee: a huge military arsenal with missiles is detonating in Russia.


Today, a series of powerful explosions occurred at the 51st arsenal of the Main Rocket and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the Vladimir region, causing a large-scale detonation of munitions. Local residents observe a 'fireball' and thick smoke over the village of Barsovo.

The governor of the region, Alexander Avdeev, confirmed the explosion, but did not provide further details about the causes of the incident. He stated that the relevant services had already begun working at the scene. However, the official also warned about the possibility of spreading unverified information and bears responsibility for this.
According to various sources, about 105 thousand tons of various munitions were stored at the arsenal, which occupies an area of over 500 hectares. Among them were artillery shells, rockets for multiple launch rocket systems, components of anti-aircraft missile systems, tactical missiles of the 'Tochka-U' type, and other types of weaponry.
The local authorities announced the evacuation of settlements located near the military facility. The evacuation of residents of the village of Barsovo, where military unit number 11785 is located, has been confirmed. Evacuation is also being carried out from the village of Mirny.
Witnesses report the closure of the road from Moscow to Kirzhach and the continuation of powerful explosions and smoke.
The size of the arsenal and its role in the war against Ukraine
The 51st GRAU arsenal is one of the largest munitions depots in Russia. It contains 45 storage facilities and 30 open-type platforms. The total capacity of the arsenal is about 264 thousand tons, equivalent to 4286 cars of munitions weighing 64 tons each.
According to open information, in 2024 this arsenal received military cargo from Belarus, indicating its active role in supplying the Russian armed forces during the war against Ukraine.
