Former Prime Minister of Ukraine, Mykola Azarov, has approached the Russian Academy of Sciences with a request to become a member, despite having no scientific achievements. This was reported by the information resource T-Invariant.

Previously, Azarov was a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, but he was excluded from the institution in 2022. Now he is trying to become a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of 'mining science'.

According to T-Invariant, Azarov is the only candidate for admission to the academy who has no scientific publications. Moreover, his name is absent from the Scopus database, which tracks the citation of scientific articles.

Azarov's History

After the Revolution of Dignity, he fled to Russia, where he currently remains. Since 2014, he has been wanted by the Security Service of Ukraine.

In March 2021, the National Security and Defense Council imposed new sanctions against former high-ranking officials and traitor law enforcement officers, among whom were the fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych and former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov. These sanctions were recommended by the Security Service of Ukraine.

In November 2023, Azarov was suspected of conducting information activities in favor of Russia. He regularly appears on Russian information channels.

In March 2024, the prosecution sent an indictment against Azarov and his assistant to court.

Azarov, together with other former Ukrainian officials, faces problems with Ukraine while residing in Russia. His exclusion from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and his application to join the Russian Academy of Sciences indicate Azarov's attempts to find support and legitimize his activities.
