Six Reasons Not to Buy a Hybrid Car in 2025

The Ukrainian vehicle fleet is gradually being replenished with hybrid cars. According to Ukravtoprom, in June Ukrainians purchased over 2400 passenger HEVs and PHEVs, which is 14% more than in the previous year.

Higher Price

Experts explain that hybrids often cost more than gasoline cars but less than electric vehicles. Although hybrid owners claim to save on fuel, the payback effect may not appear as quickly as expected.

Environmental Ambiguity

Drivers choosing a fully electric engine want to reduce their environmental impact. However, hybrids still use fossil fuels, affecting the environment during the production and disposal of batteries.

Power and Performance

Despite the need to manage fuel consumption and reduce emissions, hybrids may have slower acceleration than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. If speed and performance are important factors, a hybrid may not meet the requirements.

Higher Maintenance Costs

Repairing a hybrid vehicle can be more complicated due to two power sources - the gasoline engine and the electric motor. Additionally, replacing batteries can be an expensive procedure.

Driver Needs

Hybrids work most effectively in urban traffic, where regenerative braking can be utilized. However, for long highway trips or short distances, buying a hybrid may not be economical.

Towing and Transport

Not all hybrids are suitable for towing heavy loads. Some models are not designed for these purposes.

The number of hybrid cars in Ukraine is increasing; however, there are certain important aspects that drivers should be aware of before purchasing such a vehicle. It is important to consider both financial costs and the features of using hybrid cars in different operating conditions.
