Pension Fund Explains Why Military Personnel May Lose Pension Supplements.

The Pension Fund Grants Military Pensioners the Right to Receive Child Maintenance Supplements
Military personnel who receive a pension for years of service have a legal right to receive additional payments for the maintenance of minor children, reports the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU). According to the legislation, non-working military pensioners are entitled to a supplement for each dependent child.
Article 16 of the Law of Ukraine 'On Pension Provision for Persons Dismissed from Military Service and Certain Other Persons' stipulates that non-working pensioners who have children in their care are entitled to receive a supplement for each non-working family member equal to 50% of the minimum subsistence level for persons who have lost their working capacity.
“Children are considered non-working family members until they reach the age of 18 or older if they have a disability before reaching 18,” say PFU specialists.
The supplement is established from the first of the month following the month of submission of the application and necessary documents. If the pensioner acquired the right to the supplement earlier than the application was submitted, such a supplement may be paid for the previous period, but not more than 12 months and not earlier than the date of acquiring the right.
For a military personnel who has been receiving a pension for years of service since 2010 and has submitted an application for the appointment of a supplement to the pension for minor children, the payment of the supplement will begin from the first of the next month after the application is submitted.
It is worth noting that in case of employment of the pensioner, the payment of the supplement is suspended. Therefore, military pensioners must inform pension authorities about changes in their employment status to avoid unlawful receipt of supplements, emphasize the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
