In the Rivne region, an 11-centimeter helminth was discovered in a woman. Doctors have successfully removed the parasite from her upper eyelid. This is already the fourth case of subcutaneous dirofilariasis among the residents of the region this year, suggesting the spread of this disease.

The Rivne Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported this case on its Facebook page.

The woman from the Sarny district sought medical attention complaining of general weakness and headaches, which turned out to be symptoms of subcutaneous dirofilariasis. Doctors quickly removed the helminth, and additional examinations are now being conducted to identify possible other infections. This case is the fourth this year and the 54th in the region since 2005.
