IDF plans to capture 75% of the Gaza territory as part of a new operation
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced intentions to capture 75% of the territory of the Gaza Strip within two months as part of a new offensive operation against the Hamas organization. In recent days, Israel has resumed attacks on Hamas, ending the ceasefire, and is preparing for a large-scale ground operation to defeat the military wing of Hamas and its civilian administration in Gaza.
The IDF's plan is to relocate the Palestinian population to three zones in Gaza. It is also planned to clear the captured territory of Hamas infrastructure, neutralize buildings and subsequently maintain this territory under IDF command.
'When the large-scale ground operation begins, the Palestinian population will be relocated to three small zones: the new 'safer zone', a strip of land in the center of Gaza, and the center of the city of Gaza.'
According to the IDF, capturing 75% of Gaza should take two months from the start of the operation. Currently, the troops control about 40% of the territory of the sector. Local military officials reported a shift in focus from trying to destroy terrorists to capturing territory and targeting Hamas infrastructure.
