State Duma Deputy Valuev had a fit over Hasek's appeal to the IOC.

State Duma Deputy and former boxer Nikolai Valuev reacted to Dominik Hasek's statement to the IOC and IIHF regarding the threats made by Dmitry Medvedev on his Telegram channel. Valuev expressed his disagreement with Hasek and claimed that he is a Russophobe. Hasek informed the IOC about Medvedev's threats and stated that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not participate in international competitions. Medvedev threatened Hasek with suicide. Hasek believes that his letters to the IOC and IIHF are important for the sports community and will publish them in a few days. Hasek is a well-known hockey player and Olympic champion who opposes the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions.
Ukraine demands the exclusion of Russian servicemen from competitions. Youth and Sports Minister Matviy Bidny, NOC of Ukraine President Vadim Guttsait, and the President of the Federation of Climbing and Mountaineering Anna Yasyinska called on the international sports community to verify the information about the granting of athlete status to Varvara Prokhorova, a Russian serviceman. This contradicts the IOC recommendations, which prohibit the participation of representatives of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and Belarus in sports competitions.
Analysis:
Valuev claimed that Hasek is a Russophobe and does not deserve attention, but did not deny the threats made by Medvedev. Hasek is actively opposing the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions after the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine. Ukraine demands the exclusion of Russian servicemen from competitions, but this contradicts the IOC recommendations. The call from Matviy Bidny, Vadim Guttsait, and Anna Yasyinska to verify the information about the athlete status of the Russian sportswoman indicates that the situation is not straightforward and requires additional attention.
