Fish prices in Ukraine are rising: overview of mid-month data
In April and May 2025, changes in fish prices are observed in Ukraine. According to the Minfin portal, carp, one of the most affordable types of fish, has shown a significant increase in cost. The average price for live carp in May has increased to 168.05 UAH per kilogram, which is a 12.6% increase compared to April. The price for gutted carp has also increased by 9.3% to 213.05 UAH per kilogram.
“In May 2025, the situation with fish prices continues to raise concerns among buyers,” researchers state.
Lightly salted herring showed a slight price increase, from 192.70 UAH per kilogram in April to 194.37 UAH in May. At the same Time, the price of frozen mackerel decreased by 1.7% in May compared to the previous month, amounting to 206.55 UAH per kilogram.
“Even in times of rising prices, fish remains an important source of protein and beneficial substances for the body,” nutritionists emphasize.
It is recommended to continue consuming fish, seeking more affordable options or alternative sources of omega-3 fatty acids. It should be noted that besides fish, prices for sunflower oil, bread, and lard also rose in May.
Analysis:
The cost of fish in Ukraine continues to rise, which may lead to a limitation in the consumption of this healthy product among the population. The situation should be closely monitored, as fish is an important component of a healthy diet that needs to be replaced with alternative sources of protein and beneficial substances if its price continues to rise.
