Cherry, tomatoes, and watermelons — how much do Odessa residents pay for them.

The summer market in Cheremushki is already in full bloom, with an atmosphere filled with vibrant colors and aromas. It's not just about selling, but also active communication, trading, and exchanging recipes. Journalists visited the market to find out about life and prices for products.
Vegetables at the market
You can find classic summer vegetables at the market, such as beets, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Sellers explain that prices fluctuate due to mass harvesting and the weather's impact on the harvest.
‘Prices are slightly falling; whatever goes more into the masses from the fields falls. Now, tomatoes are starting to spoil a bit, so the price will go up again.’
Fruits at the market
The fruit row at the market impresses with its variety and scents. This year, prices for fruits have increased, especially for rare varieties. Sellers explain this is due to a small harvest and exhausting collecting in the heat.
‘Unique 'Cardinal' peach for 140 UAH. 'Orange' — 150 UAH, fig peach, local — 200 UAH.’
Meat at the market
The meat section is always lively: buyers are interested in different cuts of meat and cooking recipes. The sophistication of grilling, borscht, or shashlik is discussed seriously.
‘Right now, my best-selling items are fillet, neck, and rib. For shashlik, I always recommend taking the rib — it’s not very expensive and the juiciest.’
Dairy rows
Dairy products at the market impress with their freshness and taste. Sellers explain that the heat affects the quantity of products and insist on the quality and naturalness of their goods.
‘There are slightly fewer goods now due to drought; cows give less milk. Now, fatty cheese costs 180 UAH per kilogram. The taste remains — real, fatty, creamy.’
Visiting the Cheremushki market is a way to enjoy a summer day, to find pleasure in buying and communicating. Every purchase there is not just about acquiring products, but also enjoying contact and the market's atmosphere.
